I recently bought Fenty Eau de Parfum, which was created by singer/businesswoman Rihanna. After analyzing my receipt, I could not escape the fact that I was a trademark lawyer. I analyzed the trademark history of FENTY perfume and discovered something very interesting. The company from which I purchased the perfume (Fenty Beauty LLC) is not the same company that owns the FENTY trademark (Roraj Trade LLC).
I surmised that this happened because of trademark licensing. I also concluded that business moves like this are why Rihanna is now a billionaire. For a more in-depth, but quick analysis, view this Instagram Reel or TikTok.
